Design 2 Make

If you have been following D2M at all over the past year or so you would probably agree that D2M has been a little lost. We’ve come out with a few products but they’ve been pretty random without a common theme. I love all the products, form the key chain to the wallet to the coasters, but it’s hard to create a brand or grow a following when nobody really knows what you do.

I think this past year was a necessary phase in this business. I learned so much about developing a product and bringing it to market. I learned how important it is to keep the target market and price point in mind from the very beginning of developing the product. Its really easy to develop a cool product, but it doesn’t matter how awesome it is if you need to price it so high that nobody is willing to pay for it.

Moving forward D2M is going to have a more cohesive product line that has a common theme and aesthetic. I want people to easily understand exactly what D2M makes and be able to associate the brand with a certain look and design style. Knowing my tendency to get distracted with side projects, I will need to work hard to hold myself accountable and keep the brand focused.

With that said, I should probably define what D2M will be moving forward. Something I’ve recently gained an appreciation for is the ability to create an environment that promotes a certain mood or feeling. Whether you want a calm and relaxing space, a high energy social environment, or anything in between, you can manipulate the environment to promote that vibe. D2M is going to make products that help you manipulate your environment to create whatever atmosphere you desire through the use of sound, light, and even scent. I have so many ideas for products, but my first one to share with you will be a concrete speaker. Audio can be such a powerful way to manipulate your environment. Whether playing music or creating a stunning home theater, truly great quality audio can make a huge impact on the overall experience.
